Yordanka Chobanova

Head of the European Commission Representation in Sofia

Yordanka Chobanova is the Head of the European Commission Representation in Sofia, Bulgaria.

She was born on 30.07.1980 in Svishtov, Bulgaria.

She graduated from the University of Economics – Varna, Faculty of Finance. In 2003, Ms Chobanova got a Master degree in Political Science from the Central European University – Budapest, Hungary. In 2007, she defended her doctoral thesis at the European University Institute, Florence, Italy. Her research interests focus on innovations, innovation systems of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the strategies of multinational companies in the context of the EU integration.

From 2008 to 2012, Ms Yordanka Chobanova was a representative of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria in Brussels. During the period of 2012 – 2016 she was an adviser of European affairs to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. In 2014, she was the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works in the caretaker government. From 2016 to 2021, she was an ambassador of Bulgaria to the Slovak Republic. From 2021 to 2024, Ms Chobanova was a policy officer in DG “Maritime Affairs and Fisheries” in the European Commission. Since 16 March 2024 Yordanka Chobanova is the Head of the European Commission Representation in Sofia, Bulgaria.
