The Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” is a public research university in Sofia, Bulgaria, It is the oldest institution of higher education in Bulgaria. Its history is an embodiment and a continuation of centuries of cultural and educational tradition in this country.
Founded on 1 October 1888, the edifice of the university was constructed between 1924 and 1934 with the financial support of the brothers Evlogi Georgiev and Hristo Georgiev (whose sculptures are now featured on its façade) and has an area of 18,624 m2 and a total of 324 premises. The university has 16 faculties and three departments, where over 21,000 students receive their education.
Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski has the mission to safeguard, enrich and carry through the centuries the spirit of knowledge and the aspirations of humanity to knowledge and truth. The University is the center of the development of science and the education of students in all domains of life; it also cultivates highly educated, nationally responsible personalities who will lead the Bulgarian nation to spiritual feats and social welfare.

Today Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the largest and most prestigious educational and scientific centre in the country.
